'Rashtrakavi' Maithilisharan Gupta |
Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh today greeted the citizens of the state on 'Rashtrakavi' Maithilisharan Gupta's jayanti. Mr. Gupta is a jewel in the crown of Indian literature. He was awarded Padmavibhushan and Padmabhushan. The legendary literary figure roused the patriotic sentiments with his 'Bharat Bharti' in the year 1914. He wrote several 'Mahakavya' and historic dramas.
Mr. Maithilisharan Gupta is the architect of ' Saket' ,' Yashodhara', 'Jaydrath Vadh' and 'Panchwati'. He attained popularity all over the nation with his literary masterpieces. He was a member of Rajya Sabha from 1952-1964. It may be mentioned here that Mr. Maithilisharan Gupta was born on 3 August 1886 at village Chirgaon in district Jhansi (Uttar Pradesh). He studied Sanskrit, Hindi and Bengali at his residence itself. His writings had been published in popular 'Saraswati' magazine. He played an important role in shaping the Independence movement with his memorable literary masterpieces. He passed away on 12 December 1964.
